Hello. I’m very pleased to meet you.

Welcome to my new site. I’m honored that you stopped by. Today marks the first serious step of a new photographic journey. One that began about a year ago when a nagging little voice in my heart finally began to scream. What’s a girl to do but listen? Time to let the artist come out and play. Time to leave the corporate jungle and career ladder-climbing behind. Time to stop worrying about the next layoff and take life into my own hands. This website signifies a huge leap into that transition.

I’ve had a love affair with food my whole life. Helping my mom in the kitchen. Getting underfoot in my grandma’s kitchen – learning delicious secrets of southern cooking. Working as a chef apprentice and then for several years as a chef.  And now exploring the visual glory and beauty of real food. For the past several months, I’ve been experimenting with the Paleo diet. So far 10 pounds have disappeared and I’ve found that eating in is pretty easy – just prepare whole, unprocessed foods without grains, legumes and most dairy. Eating out or away from home? That’s another story altogether. I have a newfound appreciation for the frustration that gluten intolerance brings. And you can just forget about that lovely Southern cooking I grew up with and love so much. Can’t even imagine fried okra or green tomatoes without cornmeal. And who could resist shrimp and grits or fresh shelled black-eye peas from the farm or a drippy, heavenly tomato sandwich with tons of mayo on white bread? So in honor of my southern heritage and a love of red wine, cheddar cheese, and corn chips, I’ve embarked on a mostly Paleo diet – southern style.

Fresh, natural and organic if available – grass-fed beef, free range poultry and wild-caught seafood from US Wellness Meats. Lot’s of protein and fresh veggies. Light on the fruit and mostly berries.

My guilty pleasures include  minimally processed foods – mostly corn meal, grits, blue corn tortilla chips, sour cream, cheese, butter from grass-fed cows, red and sparkling wine when I feel like it, dark chocolate, and an occasional binge of gluten-free peanut butter cookies from Whole Foods (sometimes you just gotta feed the cookie monster – just say’n).
